aRT 1
Elective- Half Year Course
Grade Levels - 9-12
The Art 1 course is an introduction to art history, drawing, painting and crafts. In addition to class projects, students will be required to submit weekly homework assignments. Tests will be given on information such as technique, media and art history. ( Course requirements include: Notebook/sketchbook and required projects).
Elective- Full Year Course
Grade Levels - 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: A 75% or higher in Art 1
The Art 2 course will continue to develop artistic skills and knowledge through art history, advanced media and techniques. Applied Arts as well as Fine Art will be discussed and given as assignments. Students will be tested on their knowledge of media, techniques and art history. ( Course requirements include: projects, sketchbooks and sets for Drama Club).
Elective- Full Year Course
Grade Levels - 11 and 12
Prerequisites: An 80% or higher in Art 2
The Art 3 course allows the advanced student the opportunity to further explore art styles, media and techniques. Advanced assignments/projects will be given to build a portfolio in the areas of Fine Art and the Applied Arts. Career opportunities in the Visual arts will be discussed. Students are required to submit a portfolio of required projects. (Course requirements include: portfolio assignments, sketchbook/notebook, Drama sets and Art show).
Elective- Full Year Course
Grade Level - 12
Prerequisites: An 80% or higher in Art 3
The Art 4 course is an individualized program that encourages the advanced art student to work on an independent level within the assigned portfolio requirements. Projects are assigned in specific areas to strengthen portfolios for presentation. An effort is made to help raise the aesthetic standard of the student, school and community. ( Course requirements include: Portfolio assignments, sketchbook/notebook, Drama sets and Art show).
AP DrAWING
Elective- Full Year Course
Grade Level - 12
Prerequisite: A 90% or higher in Art 3 and Teacher recommendation.
Through direct teacher instruction, emphasis will be placed on the production of a volume of 12 quality pieces of art work. Students will address all three sections of a portfolio: Breadth, Concentration, and Quality.
Students will be challenged to create their own personal work. Students will develop mastery of concept, composition, and execution of their personal ideas and themes. Students will also understand that art making is an ongoing process that uses informed and critical decision making to determine outcomes to problems. Students will be expected to develop a creative and comprehensive portfolio that
addresses each of these issues.
